Guard shoots KU student dead after heated debate

It was shock and grief in the early hours of Wednesday night at Kampala University's Jinja based branch as a security guard shot dead a third-year student.

The deceased has been identified as Isaac Katagwa, who was a student of a Bachelor's degree in hotel management, tourism and leisure.

According to a source who spoke to URN on the basis of anonymity, the deceased was involved in a heated argument with the security guard who is allegedly attached to Star React Security Guard Limited as it clocked towards 9 pm and what followed was a gunshot which left Katagwa lifeless. According to the same source, Katagwa was shot through his back at close range.

"The two kept on arguing and we played it cool only to hear a gunshot later on. All students ran to the administration block in fear," The source said in part.

Jinja Central Police Commander Godwin Ochaku confirmed the incident saying that their team of crime officers rushed to the scene and investigations into the matter started immediately. He said that the suspect had been arrested and locked up at Jinja Central Police Station.

By the time of compiling this report, the deceased's body was at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for post mortem.
