Four UPDF soldiers arrested over colleague’s death whose limbs were cut off

Police in Magamaga has arrested four UPDF officers to help in investigations into circumstances under which their colleague was found dead with limbs cut off.

According to the Busoga East Police spokesperson, ASP James Mubi, the quartet under their detention is attached to the engineering department of the Magamaga Cantonment barracks in Mayuge district.

“A UPDF officer one, RA 218630 R/CPL Joel Cherukut 35, attached to Magamaga Cantonment barrack (engineering dept) in Mayuge district was found dead with his right arm cut off near a railway line in Magamaga town council. We visited the scene yesterday and four UPDF officers arrested and detained to help us in investigations following the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of their colleague,”Mubi said.

The police publicist said that the deceased before meeting his fate, was in the company of the quartet at Forest Bar and later at Mama Kawala’s bar in Magamaga town council where they had fun.

Cherukut was however later found dead under mysterious circumstances.

“There's a possibility that the deceased could have died as a result of an accident caused by a train that passed at midnight because both legs and body were smashed but we are not ruling out that it could have been stage-managed. A death inquiry file has been opened up as investigations continue,”he noted.

Mubi said the deceased’s body was taken to Mulago for postmortem and this will help in investigations.
