Foreign affairs minister Sam Kahamba Kutesa has said he is not aware of top of Ugandan government officials being denied visas to the United States of America as alleged on social media.
Kutesa was responding to allegations first aired on various social media platforms that several top Ugandan government officials have been denied visas to the USA. Among the officials mentioned include the Deputy Inspector General of Police Sabiiti Muzeyi, Uganda People’s Defenses Forces land forces commander Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, Permanent Secretary to the Judiciary Pius Bigirimana and Foreign Affairs minister Sam Kutesa himself.
Kutesa labelled the allegations as fake news.
Kutesa said that if any officials have been denied visas, they are being targeted as individuals and the ban does not apply to the country.
Kutesa said that it is the right of any country to deny a visa application in case the person seeking entry is deemed an undesirable on its territory.
He said that Uganda is actually working with many countries to ensure that its officials have access to long term visas that allow entry for ten years and beyond.
He said that the unfounded allegations of visa denials for government officials will not affect the country’s ability to attract investors or travel to market it.
