Police have shot and killed David Kibuuka, a resident of Kabowa in Kampala as they tried to disperse protestors who attempted to force their way into the premises of Shreeji Stationers 2009, whose owners they blame for blocking roads.
The incident has been confirmed by the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigire.
Oweyesigire said, “Kampala Metropolitan police south is investigating a murder of one Kibuuka David a resident of kabowa , today at around 10am while a group of people had gathered in areas of Kabowa to show dissatisfaction of what they allege their neighbour closing the road the community has been using.
David Kibuuka, the man who lost his life amid police shooting has been identified as the vilage’s information minister and publicist.
Police also confirmed that it is Officer in charge (Oc) Kironde Police post; ASP Bwiire Justus, one of their own, who killed David Kibuuka, and has now been detained at Old Kampala police station.
“It’s alleged that our officer ASP Bwiire Justus, the Oc Kironde Police post started shooting bullets to disperse the crowd and injured David who was later rushed to Mulago and died on arrival. Body has been taken to city mortuary for postmortem as our Oc ASP Bwiire is in custody at Old Kampala police station as investigations go on into the murder of one Kibuuka David,” Luke added.
