Kampala District Land Board to cancel 200 titles over forgery

Kampala District Land Board (KDLB) is set to cancel over 200 forged land titles allegedly owned by the departed Asians which were acquired fraudulently.

The titles to be cancelled are for plots of land in Kololo, Bugolobi, Mbuya and the city centre.

The revelation was made by Yusuf Nsibambi, the chairperson of KDLB while appearing before a select committee of the parliamentary committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE).

The select committee is investigating the dubious acquisition of land that belonged to departed Asians by some people.

Nsibambi told the select committee that they are presiding over a sensitive office which has no any data base.

Ibrahim Kasozi, the chairperson of the select committee said they had discovered that almost 200 plots within Kampala had been acquired fraudulently.

Stunned by the evidence, Nsibambi vowed to investigate the matter and cancel the alleged land titles because some of the properties had been compensated by government .

Nsibambi said: "Some of the properties were compensated for but we have handled some properties whose land titles were forged. As a board we are going to look into these cases submitted by committee members and we shall cancel them."

The committee members also faulted the officials from KDLB for extending the leases on some properties whose owners had passed on.
