Three Kenyan nationals arrested by Uganda Police at Migingo Island

Uganda Police officers have arrested three Kenyans at Migingo Island after being found in possession of marijuana and other items.

The three according to the Busoga East Police spokesperson, James Mubi were arrested by Ugandan police officers who were on patrol along Migingo island on the waters of Lake Victoria.

The trio was found with an AK47 toy gun, Kenyan government armed forces uniform, Binoculars, a panga and marijuana,”Mubi told the Nile Post.

“They are being charged with illegal entry and stay in Uganda, being in possession of government stores and possession of marijuana.”

There have been squabbles between Kenyan fishermen and Ugandan authorities over  fishing in Lake Victoria, especially around Migingo Island since 2013.

Uganda Police has in the past been arresting and detaining Kenyan fishermen for crossing over and fish from Ugandan waters after going past the demarcation.

In 2017, a total of 17 fishermen were arrested and detained by Ugandan authorities and their boats’ engines dismantled over the same allegations of going past the set demarcation at the controversial Migingo Island on Lake Victoria.
