Uganda’s best swimmers to battle at national sprints

All is set for the 2nd edition of the DSTV National Invitational sprints swimming gala that is scheduled for 9th November at Gems Cambridge International School, Butabika.

Uganda’s best 16 swimmers in each category will converge at Gems Cambridge to cap off a successful swimming season.

This competition is timely for Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) that is preparing a team to contest the CANA zone 3 championships at the Kasarani sports complex in Nairobi, Kenya later this month.

“This is an invitational championship, the USF technical team sat and looked at the results over the year and selected the top 16 swimmers in each age category who have then been invited to take part in the sprints,” explained Donald Rukare President Uganda Swimming Federation (USF).

The DSTV-sponsored invitational event will witness competition in different age categories from 10 and under until 15 and over.

These will battle in 100-meters individual medley and 50 meters in free style, butterfly, and backstroke and breaststroke.

“We are excited to be part of this for the second year running, as MultiChoice under our DSTV brand, we show a lot of swimming and we always want to encourage and support our young talent,” said Joan Semanda Kizza PR and Communications Manager MultiChoice Uganda.

Gems Cambridge International School also offered $2000(Shs7.2m) to help run the event
Uganda Swimming Federation (USF) expects this event to hone Uganda’s team for the CANA zone 3 were stiffer competition from countries like South Africa, Zambia and Kenya is expected.
