Maurice Kirya marks birthday with nude selfie 

Celebrated Ugandan musician Maurice Kirya has shocked fans by marking his 35th birthday with an explicit photo of himself in a bathtub with his fiancé. 

Kirya posted the photo on his official Facebook page Maurice Kirya Music. The photo depicts a seemingly nude Kirya lounging in a bathtub, somewhat warily eyeing the audience. In the photo can be seen the thighs of a white woman, presumably his fiancé Lisa Gceverbeek.  

A caption that comes with the photo reads, “Birthday Suit! 🎂Today is my special born day!” 

The photograph seems to have been taken by the owner of the pair of white legs in the photo.

The photo excited over 1000 comments on the page and received nearly 50 shares. Many of the comments made sly references to Kirya’s companion in the photo as they congratulated him on his November 4 birthday. 

Fred W Michael said, “Great suit though! with cake infront. Happy birthday MK.” 

Sandra Namwanje chided Kirya, “Look happy then. The birthday cake is right in front of u. Happy birthday.” 

Surprised fan Kat’s Brenda Bageya said, “Happy birthday though ur personality doesn't match that suit surely. Dint expect u to take such a pic. Anyway enjoy ur day.” 

But Kirya was defended by another fan Johnson Oebah, “The beauty of poetry makes you see things and think in dimensions not yet unfolded for many. I will do exactly the same in my 40th birthday. If I was to expound my opinion on this pic literature, I bet everyone would love to do their birthdays this way. Let the critics and naysayers keep up with their best."

The fiercely private musician recently released his fifth album Beyond Myself available online on Apple Music, Spotify and in physical stores in Uganda. The album continues to develop Kirya’s own brand of soul music he calls Mwooyo. 

Kirya and Lisa welcomed a baby girl in June 2018.
