Museveni orders military out of Makerere University

President Museveni has directed the military police to withdraw from Makerere University where they have laid siege for the past four days.

The president made the directive via radio call to through the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) to the different defense units.

In addition, President Museveni also called for a meeting with members of the University Council and the Makerere University students guild.

Presidential press secretary, Don Wanyama confirmed the developments and added that the ‘police have been directed to maintain order.”

“This morning, the President has spoken to the university council chair and the guild president, urging them to meet. He has also ordered the withdrawal of the military police from the university. The Uganda Police will maintain law and order,” he said.

“He has urged all stakeholders in Makerere University to dialogue and resolve whatever contradictions exist around the fees conundrum,” Wanyama said.
