Huawei injects Shs250M into 2019 MTN Marathon

Chines technology Company, Huawei Uganda has injected shs250 million in this year’s MTN Marathon set for next month.

The announcement was made during a function held at Huawei Uganda headquarters at the Cube building, Kisementi in Kampala on Tuesday morning.

“The issue of maternal deaths can be solved if we all contribute to this great cause. We can make Uganda a better place for pregnant mothers and this explains our sponsorship to the MTN Kampala Marathon,” said Huawei Uganda Managing Director, Liu Jiawei.

He noted that if other companies and individuals can come up with similar gestures and sponsor the MTN Marathon, they can help contribute to changing lives of many Ugandans.

The Chief Marketing Officer for MTN Uganda, Sen Somdev applauded Huawei Uganda for partnering with them during the Kampala Marathon for over six years.

“The good thing with the MTN Marathon is that you run for a good reason and such partners like Huawei make it happen.  We have been able to make a huge impact in the lives of many communities for the past 16 years the marathon has been happening and we hope to continue doing so,”Somdev said.

He said that in the past 16 years of the MTN Marathon, over shs2 billion has been collected and injected into communities to cater for the improvement of their livelihoods.

“Sponsors like Huawei should always be applauded for making it possible for us to give back to the communities in Uganda . These little drops by sponsors make the ocean.”

The 2019 edition of the MTN Kampala Marathon will be held on Sunday, November 24 at Kololo independence grounds and the regional runs in Soroti, Arua and Masaka respectively.

This year’s edition of the marathon which is the 16th will be done in the areas of Bugoloobi, Nakasero, Namuwongo, Kololo and Jinja Road.

Runners will participate in the full marathon (42km), half marathon(21km), 10km race and the 5km wheelchair race.
