Tooro's Golf Club Joseph Cwinyaai wins 2019 Kinyara Open Golf Tournament

Joseph Cwinyaai won the 2019 Kinyara Open golf tournament that took place at Kinyara golf course Bujenje, Masindi district from Friday 18th and Saturday of 19th last weekend.

Tooro golf club member Cwinyaai returned 142 gross to the victor.

Over 130 golfers turned up for the 23rd edition of the Kinyara Open Golf over the weekend.

The tournament attracted amateurs, gross players and professionals battling out for two days.

The Kinyara Open is a household event taking place every year, for the last 22 years with the event attracting a number of young and promising golfers.

Winners scooped a coveted trophy and a magnificent TV Screen.

Tooro golf club's Joseph Cwinaai returned 142 gross to take this year’s trophy taking it from Jinja’s Golf Club Grace Kasango who won it last year.

Mutawe Herman won the professional category after two days of golf in Sugarcanes’ course.

Herman took the lion’s share of the UGX 12 million professional kit that was up for grab by pros. The professionals played both Friday and Saturday.

Herman won by one stroke after scoring 68, and 71 to total 142.

The Kinyara Golf Open course Captain Angudri Geoffrey says that this the tournament has seen an increase in the number of players who turned for the game especially women. “This year women turned in large numbers. I therefore, encourage more young girls to embrace the sport,” Geoffrey said.

Geoffrey added that as organizers of the event, they are looking forward to 2020 competition.

Winners walked back home with medals, trophies, sugar and television screens.
