10th edition of Castle Lite Entebbe Open launched

In the aftermath of the Uganda Golf Open back in September that attracted unprecedented numbers, Entebbe Golf Club (EGC) have put up their hand and made bold their intention to make Uganda an even bigger golfing powerhouse in Africa.

The 10th edition of the Entebbe Open has been added to the Safari Tour Golf series from which players will earn points to feature in the prestigious Magical Kenya Open 2020, a European tour event now.

“We are especially excited for this edition of the Entebbe Open which has been affiliated to the Safari Tour series,” Uganda Golf Union Vice President John Katto said at the tournament launch at the Brand House, Bugolobi on Wednesday morning.

“We invite everyone to come see the best players in Uganda," he added.

During the launch of the 10th edition of the Castle Lite Entebbe Open, it was revealed that the tournament will run for four-days from Wednesday 30th October to Saturday 2nd November 2019.

The 10th anniversary of the Entebbe Open will also be a world amateur ranking event, giving an opportunity to Ugandan amateur players to improve their rankings.

Tournament Director Dr. Peter Apell disclosed they are working around the clock to ensure that they make this the best tournament.

“The course is in pristine condition and every player will enjoy playing on it,”

With affiliation comes a bigger prize kitty that is up to Shs40m to be shared out by the winners.

Flagship sponsors Nile Breweries under brand Castle Lite provided a financial shot in the arm worth Shs100m.

“Nile Breweries is a huge supporter of Uganda sport, this being the 10th anniversary, we are particularly happy to have been part of this journey from the very start and we commit ourselves to make this a great event,” Castle Lite’s brand manager Robert Nsibirwa stated.

Last year’s amateur winner was Entebbe Clubs’ Emmanuel Moko who returned 149 gross on the par 71 course, while Abraham Ainamani out witted the pros.
