Deputy IGP rushes to Lyantonde after deadly shooting

The deputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeeyi yesterday rushed to Kaliro Village in Lyantonde district after three people where shot dead on Sunday at 9.30 PM.

The deceased were identified as Bagabo Francis said to be in his 60s, and his wives a one Nakato commonly referred to as Mulongo and Leokadia Baliwahenki.

Muzeeyi is leading a team of investigators who are trying to apprehend the suspects.

According to a police statement, Muzeeyi's team has registered some success.

"The Deputy Inspector General of Police is still leading a team of detectives in the area and so far they have arrested one suspect in connection to the crime. Kakuru Ben was arrested from Rwampara Mbarara, where a search in his house led to recovery of 14 bullets in his house. A joint team of Flying Squad and CMI operatives are still in the hunt for the guns, yet to be recovered. The deputy Inspector General of Police has instructed them to remain in the area until all the prime suspects are arrested," said part of the statement.

Kakuru is a son to Bagabo, one of the deceased.

He is a UPDF soldier and is believed to have carried out the murder together with brother Nathan Mwebaza, who is a deserter.
