People Power: "Besigye is not our target"

Political pressure group, People Power, has rubbished reports that they are targeting Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) strong man, Dr Kizza Besigye in order to position themselves as the biggest opposition group in the country.

Following their loss in the just concluded Hoima by election, People Power blamed FDC for fronting selfish interests while FDC Supporters accused the People Power group of hijacking their candidate in the Hoima race.

Several reports have since claimed that People Power is aiming at weakening Besigye.

However, through their spokesperson, Joel Ssenyonyi, People Power has rubbished the reports saying a fellow opposition figure can never be their target.

Ssenyonyi made these remarks while appearing on a local television political show.

"The seat we are targeting is not that of Dr Kizza Besigye but that occupied by Mr Museveni. Dr Besigye doesn't occupy any office," Ssenyonyi said in part.

Ssenyonyi said that they have got their own presidential aspirant who they feel will represent the interests but that doesn't mean war against other opposition figures.

He said that People Power is a non violent group and whoever wants violence should not identify with them.
