Zimbabwe's Mnangagwa to be special guest at Uganda’s independence celebrations

The minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo ,has revealed that President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa, is expected to be the special guest at 57th Uganda's Independence Day celebrations which is to be held in Sironko district under the theme "Consolidation of National Unity, Security, Freedom and Prosperity".

The minister made the revelation yesterday while addressing the media at Uganda media centre in Kampala.

She confirmed that that President Museveni invited Mnangagwa as a special guest to grace the occasion.

“The President of Uganda, Gen Museveni will be the chief guest and he has invited another special guest His Excellency Emmerson Mnangagwa, the President of Zimbabwe to grace the occasion,” she said.

She elaborated that the government chose Sironko district because of the government policy of equality in all aspects.

“Why Sironko? As you are aware, it's government policy to ensure equality in all aspects and it's a norm that national celebrations are held in different parts of the country so that the sense of nationalism is felt everywhere," she said.

She also elaborated that government chose the district because of the towering role that Bugisu sub region continues to play towards the consolidation of the achievements of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

"And Bugisu sub-region and indeed Eastern Uganda has achieved tremendous progress and this provides an opportunity to showcase this progress to the nation," she said.

She said many people from this sub region participated in the struggle for independence and during the resistance days and so they deserve to be appreciated in a special way.
