The National Resistance Movement’s Harriet Mugenyi Busingye trounced People Power and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party candidate Nyakato Asinansi, handing singer and legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine his maiden defeat.

Mugenyi obtained 33,301 votes while People Power backed FDC candidate Nyakato garnered 28,789 votes.

"Accordingly as Returning Officer for Hoima Electoral District and in accordance with Section 58(1) of the Parliamentary Elections Act, 2005, I declare Harriet Businge who has obtained the largest number of votes to be the elected candidate for District Woman Representative to Parliament, Hoima District," the returning officer for Hoima Electoral District, Mr Douglas Matsiko said.

According to Crispy Kaheru, the national coordinator of Citizen Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU), the elections were well observed and the process was generally ‘well administered”

“Notwithstanding the suspicion, tensions and some of the incidences, it was a generally well-administered election and allowed the people of Hoima District to express their will freely,” he said on behalf of CCEDU.

Meanwhile, in Kabong District, the NRM candidate Tubo Christine Nakwang obliterated FDC candidate Judith Adyaka Nalibe, winning the election 22,523 votes as compared to the latter’s 1692.

Kabong returning officer Ogwanga Julius Ongom declared Nakwang winner of the woman MP seat at about 1:00 am
