President Museveni applauds China for supporting Uganda

President Yoweri Museveni has hailed the Government of China for what he termed as an equitable working relationship and support towards Uganda in infrastructural development on the African continent.

"We get support easily from from Chinese on the side of electricity than we get from other people who should know more about capitalism and we are very grateful,"he said.

Museveni noted that China has provided an alternative market for goods which are manufactured locally which will boost economic growth in Africa.

"Railway transport is much cheaper compared to road transport. The Government of China has been helping Uganda in the development of these areas. When they come here to work they don't tell us what to  do, they don't give us conditions. They just tell you what they can do and if you can't they don't try to manipulate you,” he said.

The President made the remarks during the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the People's Republic of the China at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

"Now we have agreed to revive the Continental Free Trade Area. This will make the cooperation with China easier where we shall be working together. We can produce products for the Africans, and for the Chinese market but also to the third party market, "he said.

Museveni praised Chinese for not only fighting colonialism but for also contributing to the liberation of African countries.

Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Zheng Zhuqiang, pledged to continue and improve working relations with Uganda with intent to boost Uganda's economy.

He said China is not only an engine for global economic growth but also a world factory, a world market and a global investor.

He said China is ready to strengthen people-to-people exchanges with Uganda focusing on the youth, women and the media among others.

He noted that over 100 Ugandan students so far have been given Chinese government scholarships to study in China.
