Museveni, Bobi face off in Hoima amidst tight security as campaigns come to a close

President Museveni and his arch-rival Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine will face off for the second time while each campaign for their candidate in the Hoima woman MP seat.

Museveni is rooting for the NRM flag bearer Harriet Busingye while Bobi Wine is in the district to support opposition coalition candidate Nyakato Asinansi. The two will be campaigning just kilometers from each other but in the same sub-county.

According to our reporters in Hoima, security has been beefed up with the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) manning operations while several police personnel assisted by recently passed out Local Defence Unit officers handle general security.

“The army is also heavily deployed, every sight is of a security officer or SFC commando,” our reporter on the ground says.

According to the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson Julius Hakiza, the deployment is a precautious one aimed at averting any crisis that is similar to that of Arua Municipality when the two sides last met.

“We want to avert collusion from both sides. We shall not give room for any disorder or chaos like what happened in Arua. We have received reports that certain elements in the opposition side want to cause disruptions,” he said.

President Museveni and the opposition coalition led by People Power founder Bobi Wine last met in Arua last year during the municipality MP byelection campaigns.

Museveni and the NRM accused opposition members of intercepting the President and stoning his motorcade. Resultantly, bullets were fired during the process leading to the death of Bobi Wine’s driver Yasiin Kawuma, while many sustained injuries.
