President Museveni applauds private initiatives for skilling youth

President Museveni has praised private initiatives that are actively contributing towards education and skilling young Ugandans.

He made the remarks while officiating the graduation ceremony of Sseninde Foundation where 30,000 women and youth successfully completed training in various vocational skills.

Museveni said these initiatives complement government efforts to help Uganda’s youth attain necessary skills and find meaningful employment.

He applauded Rosemary Sseninde, the minister of staten for Primary Education for the initiative saying it will go a long way in fighting and eradicating poverty among young Ugandans by equipping them with vocational skills.

“I want to thank my daughter Sseninde Rosemary for good work she has done. It means Rosemary has understood the diagnosis of NRM as far as solving unemployment is concerned,” he noted.

He said some of the legislators in Kampala are also trying to participate in skilling young Ugandans.

He noted that the country has been importing clothes and yet there are available resources for Uganda to manufacture everything.

“We have a very big market for these products. We must make them, get jobs for youth, create wealth and also circulate money in our economy,” he said.

He pledged to provide graduates with tailoring and salon equipment as capital (Entandikwa) for their start up businesses.

“I bless this project by Sseninde and I will add Shs100 million in the foundation,” he said.

He urged all the graduates to use the skills they have acquired to contribute to the national growth and development.
