Ministry of Lands temporarily closes KCCA zonal lands offices

The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has announced the temporarily closure of its Zonal Land Administration Offices at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to pave way for update of the Land Information System (LIS) software.

Addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Centre on Friday, the minister of Lands, Betty Amongi, revealed that the system update is focused on providing high standards computer operation services in Kampala.

"We cannot continue with services because we are upgrading to a more superior system so that superior system requires our system of land registry and all the other services to be upgraded from lower version to the high version,"she said.

She stated that with the software updates there is no way they can continue to transact business when the system needs to be upgraded.

She noted that during the update, only the KCCA survey and mapping system of the zonal office will be discontinued, but other systems will be operational.

She explained that the Land Registry, KCCA Survey, Mapping sections and KCCA Land Offices shall be closed to the public for the duration of four days beginning 23rd September up to 26th September 2019.

“Please note that during the four days of closure, there shall be no transactions received and or registered. The KCCA Land Registry will reopen to the public on 27th September 2019,” she said.

She said that the ministry has been implementing and updating the software version being used in the Land Information System for the zonal offices.

She noted that the software updates registered in all parts of the country are now working perfectly.

Amongi said that the new system will help to net all the land officials who have been cited in dubious land deal since the new system will capture the finger print and reprint them on any transaction done under their name.

“Now with your finger print with all the data that is there, that will show that a transaction has been done by a specific officer. It is now able to show and detect the officer who has made any mistake or who has engaged in any corrupt practices. You can trace through the computerizes system,"she said.
