Oktoberfest festival returns for its fourth edition

Dubbed the world’s largest beer and food festival, the Oktoberfest, returns in its fourth edition in Kampala, with a promise of a cocktail of food, beer and fun for city dwellers come October 5, 2019.

Oktoberfest debuted on the Ugandan social calendar in 2016 and it will once again be held at the Uganda Museum Gardens and will follow the long-respected tradition of the celebrations.

The event, according to its organisers, has evolved into the biggest beer, food and music festival in the nation's capital with activities that make it an excellent day out for the family and and an evening for revellers.

This year's theme will be: "Recognizing the friendship and strong cultural and economic partnerships between Germany and Uganda and celebrating this unique relationship through food, drink and arts."

Speaking at the launch, Mark Kaheru of My Food Network, the event organisers, said that the Oktoberfest has over the years seen a merging of cultures that are reflected in the event.

"The activities attempt to reflect the friendship and strong cultural and economic partnerships between Germany and Uganda, an aspect captured by the presence of two German food vendors and the DJ music line up that typifies the entertainment at the Oktoberfest Kampala," he said in part.

Over the last two years, the event is also one of the events to have been identified by the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCAA) in its efforts to define the nation's capital as an 'Event Destination of the Region,"and they have partnered with the organisers to ensure smooth preparations ahead of the event.

Gates are expected to open at noon and the event will be ending at midnight with a lot of activities such as Costume Competition, Traditional Oktoberfest games like Tug of War, beer pong, beer straw challenge among others expected to thrill the revellers.

The Guest of Honour to the event will be Dr. Albrecht Conze, the current German Ambassador to Uganda who will preside over the ceremonial aspects of the event.

Advance tickets otherwise known as 'early birds' will be sold at Shs. 15,000. These will be available at the Junction Bar Ntinda, The Gardens Najjera, and the Uganda Museum. Those who will pay at the gate shall be charged Shs 20,000.
