Miria Matembe launches a book on her political career

The former minister of Ethics and Integrity Dr. Miria Matembe has launched a book which reveals her point of departure with President Museveni.

The book titled “The struggle for freedom and democracy betrayed” recounts previous untold stories of her relationship with NRM regime and how she fell out with president Museveni.

Her story is about how her trust was broken and abused by the political system.

Matembe who is known for being outspoken especially on issues regarding women has written the book to shed light on some of secret and her relationship with the current regime an how she was betrayed.

She noted that with publication of the book, she feels she has given birth to a baby after 33 years of pregnancy.

“A quiet and strong voice spoke to my sprit the words “the making of a dictator” from that day these words keep on ringing into my heart day after a day until 2006 when a pick a pen and a conceive this baby,” she said.

She noted many people think somebody else will come and do the job of liberating this country from dictatorship.

At the launch of the book on Thursday, Matembe chose to use different people to read the excepts of the book.

The people included DP president Norbert Mao and human rights activist, Nicholas Opiyo.

The chief guest Prof Fredrick Ssempebwa revealed that Matembe was an activist even as a student at Makerere University.

“We have known each other for a long time to begin with. I have known her before her husband, I am sorry to say so, I must say that even as a student she was rather tough on women issues,” he said.

The launch of the book was attended by key prominent opposition figures and political activists.
