With the foundation done at about Shs6m in net expenses, it is now time to start on the ground floor.
“Lay hollow concrete bricks (150*200*400mm) to all ground floor walls up to a height of 3m-3.5m. Weld hollow sections on to metal plates welded on to steel bars, then wrap hollow sections with expanded metal lathe,” Engineer Abdul Mwanjje of First Village Technical and Construction company explains.

Among other costs expected include;
22 pieces of Steel Plates which would take one between Shs750,000 to 770,000.
11 pieces of HS (100*100*6mm) which would cost one up to Shs3,300,000sh.
20 pieces of IPE building wood at about Shs560,0000 and Shs120,000 to be spent on 3 bundles of Metal lathe and another 15 bundles at a later stage which would cost around Shs600,000.
Shs 7m would be spent on concrete hollow bricks (3500 pieces) and Shs2.4m spent on cement. Mwanjje claims that one would need approximately 80 bags of the cement to get a good job.
“One would need around 5 trips of Pit sand at approximately Shs1.2m, 3 trips of aggregates for Shs750,000 and about Shs870,000 spent on 100 kg of 5-inch nails (Shs500,000), 20kgs of 4 inches (Shs100,000), 20kgs of 3 inches (Shs100,000) 30kgs of 11/2 nails (Shs 165,000) respectively”
“In order to provide for the staircase to the first floor, we shall require to purchase 15 pieces Y12 bars at about Shs36,000 each (Shs540,000).”

Timber 4*4(pine)- 100pcs at Shs25000sh (Shs 2,500,000)
12*1(kirundu)- 40pcs- Shs7500 (Shs 300,000)
Gumpoles (kalitunsi)- 50pcs at Shs 3000 (Shs 150,000)
BRC mesh(48m) -1roll at Shs800,000
Provide for electrical conduit at Shs 400,000
So for approximately Shs24m, we have the ground floor sorted and off we move to the first floor which will be the final phase of the five-storied bedroomed house.
