Parliament has finalised all preparations to host the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference scheduled for 22nd to 29th of this month at Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort Hotel.
It has already procured more than 100 brand new vehicles that will be used in the transportation of the over 54 speakers of different parliaments expected to attend the conference.
The type of vehicles that have been procured include 50 Land Cruisers that will be used by the VIP’s, 50 Coaster Vans and 50 pickups that will be used by the security officers.
The director of Communications and Public Affairs at Parliament Chris Obore said all the due processes were followed to procure these vehicles.
Obore however refused to disclose to us the exact amount of money spent on all the new vehicles arguing will the exact figure will be realised after the specialised vehicles for the people with disability have arrived.
But Nile Post has established that the land cruisers cost Shs 250 million; the coasters were procured at a cost of Shs 300 million and each security pick up was bought at Shs 200 millions.
This means Parliament spent at least Shs 37 billion on vehicles.
This is the second time Uganda will be hosting the commonwealth Parliamentary conference the first being in 1967.
