The mayor of Entebbe Municipality, Kayanja Vincent Depaul and the area MP Rosemary Tumusiime on Sunday launched cycling project in a bid to fight traffic jam in the area.
Speaking to Nile Post, Kayanja noted the project will also help to make Entebbe attractive to both local and foreign tourists.
“Today we have launched an initiative of Biking Up Uganda Entebbe Chapter. Entebbe happens to be a member of International Council for Local Government Initiatives on Environment,” he said.
He noted that under such initiative, Entebbe is one of the pilot area cities that is undertaking initiative of promoting eco mobility.
“Eco mobility means that we should avoid using vehicles. We should resort to bikes, walking and mass transport, so that we are promoting biking as one way of fighting traffic jam,“he said.
He rallied all the people of Entebbe to embrace biking for the good of their health as well as fighting jam.
Tumusiime the area MP said the move is aimed at promoting tourism activities in Entebbe.
She noted that Entebbe is one of the areas considered as a tourist city.
“We think that this initiative will encourage our tourists to use bikes to move around the city and to get to look at the beauty of the area,” she said.
