Don’t use People Power as a stepping stone- Bobi Wine to politicians

Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, also the leader of the People Power Movement, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine has warned politicians against the movement as a stepping stone for achieving greater heights.

“If you show your people that power is the only way to get out of the problems they have but trying to promote your own party or group, people will know. We come from various political parties, tribes, and religions but this is not the opportunity to build your party or political futures. This is a chance to liberate Uganda,” Bobi Wine said during a function to launch the red beret as an official attire for his People Power pressure group.

The function was held on Sunday at Kamwokya near his FireBase studios.

The tough-talking  Kyadondo East legislator cum singer said the People Power pressure group should not be used by politicians who are seeking to revive their political parties but rather as an opportunity to unite as Ugandan to cause regime change in Uganda.

“Don’t vulgarize this. We give each other’s political party, tribe or religion respect but while coming here (to join people power), these affiliations should be left in your house. We have one mission here and that is to be free. If Uganda is liberated, your party will also be liberated.”

Bobi Wine said in the past, examples have indicated that when Ugandan have come together, they have been able to triumph against their common enemy.

The legislator’s comments come at a time when a number of politicians from all political parties both the ruling NRM party and the opposition are at a terrific speed claiming allegiance to the People Power movement.

Following victories in Bugiri and Arua Municipalities where Bobi Wine campaigned for Asuman Basaalirwa and Kassiano Wadri who eventually won, the People Power, a budding movement has gained popularity in the politics of the country.

A number of politicians, including those already established have since run to associate themselves with Bobi Wine’s People Power movement.

In the past, politicians have sued such tactics to bargain for financial or employment rewards from governments in power or a political party that promises to pave their way to a political office.
