YY coaches subjects drivers to refresher course

Following a spate of accident involving buses belonging to YY busses, the management of the company subjected their drivers to a refresher course in partnership with Uganda Traffic Police.

The training was done in Kampala on Monday.

Speaking to Nile Post, Emmanuel Wabwire, the manager YY Buses Company noted that there were some registered complaints about their company and the way it operates.

Some of the complaints include reckless driving, over speeding, the general drop down in customer care among others.

“So we decided to convene this meeting to make sure we address most of these issues concerning our company especially on the aspect of driving,” he said.

The acting director Inspectorate of Vehicles Suleiman Kirungi noted the evaluation of the drivers is still ongoing.

“We know they pass through our hands. They got the driving permits but we are saying that like any other profession, drivers need to be reevaluated,” he said.

The Director Traffic Police Dr Steven Kasiima said that there was need to engage the drivers of YY buses in a discussion and also warn them.

He noted that the kind of training the drivers are undertaking will help to improve their skills in a bid to overcome road carnage.

“Someone could have got a permit when the roads were not very congested but with this congestion, you need to go for more training,” he said.
