Mafias want to kill me over stance on UTL, says Minister Anite
Minister of State for Privatisation and Investment Evelyn Anite has said there is a plan my mafias to assassinate her just like it was done to former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.
Anite recently triumphed when the High Court in Kampala ordered for an audit into the struggling Uganda Telecom (UTL) within 30 days as the minister had requested.

Addressing a news conference on Monday at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in Kampala, Anite insisted that there is plan to remove her out of the UTL picture for “sinister” plans by mafias to continue without her.
“A cabal of thugs in government is plotting to kill me. They have held meetings in various places in Kampala. They have recruited people to trail me. They have got printouts of my telephone conversations. When I die, there should be no postmortem,”Anite told journalists.
“The plan by the mafias is to take Anite out of the picture. I might die but history will judge them harshly. You know the mafias are the ones who have been blocking the audit. Do not live in denial.”
Last week, a whistleblower petitioned the IGG asking for investigations into an alleged secret booking from US via France to Mauritius by Anite to meet investors who want to take over UTL.
The hard-talking Anite, however, said the whistleblower petition was the hand of the mafias baying for her blood but noted they will not manage her.
On the alleged trip to Mauritius, the State Minister for Finance said she has never been to the island country as alleged.
“They will fight those who stand up for the truth, I traveled to pursue my academics and news back home was that I had fled the country. I am writing to the IGG to invite her to investigate me on how I am doing my job. I want to make it clear, I have no travel ban against me. I am the minister for privatization and my mandate is to bring in foreign investors.”

Owing to a recent Internal Security Organisation report that indicated that equipment for Uganda Telecom Limited are being vandalized, Anite said it is mafias behind the plot to cripple the company but said their schemes will not succeed.
“The UTL audit finally begun on Thursday but the mafia organization is already vandalizing UTL infrastructure in various parts of the country to kill the probe.”
She insisted she will continue exposing the rot in the government she is serving so as to “chase the wrong people and bring the right ones”.
“These are not mere allegations. Mafias are not jokers but I will die shouting until they take me down. My point is saving UTL.”
Anite however never mentioned any of the mafias she claims are behind the plot to finish her off.
Uganda Telecom Limited was in May 2017 put under administration after Libyans, who owned 69% of the shares left at a time when the company had an Shs700b debt.
Early this year, government kicked out Teleology Holdings Limited from Nigeria for failure to pay Shs268 billion within three months of being awarded the UTL deal as had been agreed by both parties.
