50% of Entebbe Airport expansion works complete, says CAA official

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has revealed that the Entebbe airport expansion works have hit 56% of planned operations.

The revelation came as CAA officials inspected the different sections of the airport over the weekend.

The acting executive director of CAA Fred Bamwesigye noted that they expect to complete some sections like the cargo centre and aprons by December.

He noted that the first phase of the airport expansion is expected to be completed by May 2021.

“We are working and strengthening taxiway alpha and that work is 66% complete, there is taxiway A extension that one is almost complete taxiway K has also be connected to Taxiway A," he said.

“Runway 1230 as you also see overall completion progress is 94%. This is phase 1 to 5 has been completed. Phase 6 is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of next month," he said.

He noted that the design of the main commercial centre is underway and expected to be completed by the end of this month.

“Aircraft packing apron 4, overall progress of these activities is 47% and the first half is expected to be the end of this month, the all apron is expected to be completed at the end of December of this year, aircraft packing apron 2 overall progresses is at 28%,”he noted.

Bamwesigye said the reconstruction of VVIP apron 2 is ongoing.
