Several passengers are feared dead after a bus was involved in a head-on collision with a taxi along the Mbale-Tirinyi road on Sunday evening.

The accident according to eyewitnesses happened at around 6pm at Busembatya when a bus belonging to YY coach company registration number UAX 852Y collided with a taxi registration number UAV 689E.

“I don’t think there are survivors because dead bodies are all over the road,” said the eyewitness.

YY coaches confirmed the accident but said none of their passengers had been injured.

“We regret to announce an accident involving our coach at Busembatya. A taxi crashed into our coach. All our passengers are safe,” the bus company said in a statement.

“Police is still working to ascertain the names and other identities of the deceased taxi passengers. We shall update you as and when we get more information.”

According to pictures from the accident scene, the taxi was damaged beyond repair and it is suspected many of its occupants could have died.

This is the third accident involving YY Bus Company in period less than three weeks.

Last week, two people died on spot and 42 were rushed to hospital in critical condition after a bus, registration number UAQ 906T belonging to YY Coaches, overturned at Buseyi Village along the Iganga-Jinja Highway.

The story is still being updated…..
