Sseninde Women's Development Football Cup draws made

The Sseninde Women's Development Cup will take centre stage on Saturday, 24th August in Western Uganda at the Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara as draws were made yesterday at Villa Park in Nsambya.

The annual women football one-day tournament will be celebrating its fourth edition in western Uganda in Kakyeka stadium, Mbarara and a big number of people are expected to come and watch the talents exhibited by young girls locally and internationally.

Teams like Youth Sport, St Mary's, Mbarara Sports Academy, Kigezi Club, Mbarara Junior Academy, Kira and Kinandoni from Tanzania among others will take part in this year’s Sseninde women football tournament.

The chief executive officer of Sseninde Foundation Madam Jean Sseninde explained the primary reason of having such tournament for women.

“Today we are here because the competing teams are having their draws to know which side this will play for this tournament was put there to create opportunities for girls who love football but they do not get a platform and most importantly to improve the game of football among ladies in Uganda and abroad” Sseninde said.

She added and said that this year over 28 team including teams from Tanzania will compete for a trophy and expose their talent in Kakyeka stadium-Mbarara.

The Sseninde women football tournament ambassador Ruth Aturo who is  Crested Cranes number one goalkeeper said that this tournament is meant to develop talent among the girls in Uganda and abroad,

“Am so happy that Sseninde foundation has done this to develop women in Uganda. This is a great opportunity to girls in Uganda to to showcase their talent. We have not reached where we want to reach but at least we have taken a step as far as women football in the country is concerned,” Aturo said.

On 24th August 2019 over 30 teams will be eyeing the trophies and other prizes.
