Ivan Boogere on song as Proline triumph on CAF debut

It was an extraordinary day for players, coach, fans and the entire Proline management as the Lugogo based tram triumphed in their first-ever game on the continent.

Proline beat Bright Stars in the Uganda Cup finals to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup and on Saturday they never disappointed as they faced Masters Security Services from Malawi in the tournament’s preliminary round.

The striker rounded the Malawian goalkeeper in the 17th to open the score before adding two more goals in the 56th and 80th minutes to seal Proline’s victory.

“The CECAFA tournament in which we were eliminated in early stages gave us a lot of experience that helped us today,” Boogere said shortly after the game.

For Proline coach, Shafick Bisaso, the convincing win put them on course to qualifying to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages where they will at least be assured of one billion shillings for finish bottom of the group.

“This win is excitable. The first game for me, the player and the entire team has been good. It is a good feat for Ugandan football altogether. Count us through,” Bisaso said during the post-match press conference.

Proline will now need a point when they visit Masters Security Services in a fortnight’s time in Lilongwe, the Malawian capital to set a date with the winner between Tanzania’s KMC and AS Kigali from Rwanda.

This was the first continental game in Proline’s history that dates back thirteen years ago.
