"Government start issuing driving permits next year," says minister Bagiire

The minister of Works and Transport Aggrey Bagiire has said government shall start issuing driving permits next year after the expiry of Face Technologies contract.

Face Technologies currently issues the permits on behalf of government and its contract is still valid.

Bagiire noted that their contract with South Africa’s Face Technologies is valid until next year that's when government will take full possession.

"Government would fully posses [the process of issuing permits] to reduce the cost of obtaining a driving permit," he said.

He noted that the contract is still running and it is not true that they are taking over the process this year.

"I first read about the matter in Sunday Monitor. I had not known that there is something of that kind that was happening. So to me I think that is a rumour," he said.
