Government through the ministry of Judiciary has granted medical leave to former Mbarara Grade One Magistrate, Pamela Karamagi following reports about consistent dreams and ‘illusions’.

Karamagi accordingly has been having a series of dreams about people attacking her physically through cyber technology and others following her everywhere with the intention to harm her.

According to Esta Nambayo, the chief registrar, Karamagi has been suffering from these ‘illusions’ for quite some time.

‘Ms. Karamagi was in November 2018 recalled from her Mbarara Chief Magistrate’s Court workstation back to headquarters in Kampala for close monitoring,” she said.

“There were numerous complaints that Her Worship Karamagi suffers from a yet to be determined condition and she could no longer perform her duties,” Nambayo who also doubles as her supervisor said.

According to Judiciary’s Permanent Secretary Pius Bigirimana, the magistrate has been granted medical leave to ascertain her mental status and enable monitoring so she is able to perform her duties with time.

“Our decision is to work with her family to assist her access to psychosocial support services. Her family informed the Judiciary that it sought some medical attention for her last year without much success.”

“The Judiciary understands that Ms. Karamagi is undergoing a very difficult phase of her life and career. As such, we believe that sensationalizing or making fun of her circumstances may just escalate her condition. We are committed to supporting Ms. Karamagi to ensure that she resumes her duties,” he added.

Karamagi was a grade-one magistrate one magistrate in Busembatia and Iganga before moving to Mbarara and later Kampala. The magistrate at one time documented her state of illusions in a letter addressed to the president of the Uganda Judicial Officers Association.

In the letter, she accused the Principal Judge, Dr. Yorokamu Bamwine of being one of the people behind her troubles.
