8 remanded for murdering Kisoro lawyer Ssendegeya
Eight people including two former M23 combatants were on Wednesday remanded to the government prison in Kisoro over the murder of lawyer Isaac Ssendegeya.
The prominent lawyer was aged 39 was shot dead by unknown assailants on the morning of July 21 at the doorway of his house in Nturo village near Kisoro town.

On Wednesday, Charles Munyaneza, 33, Claude Ndagizimana,42, Steven Mfitundinda,29,Scola Nyiramajambere,59, Vianny Issah,24, Asuman Hagumakwiha,59, Hadija Niyijena and Eliminate Mutesi were arraigned before the Kisoro grade one magistrate Raphael Vuen and charged with murder.
They all denied the charges and the state prosecutor asked court to remand them because investigations are still ongoing.
They were remanded to Kisoro government prison until September 04, 2019 for mention of their case.
Last weekend, a former combatant handed himself over to police in Mbarara over the murder of lawyer Ssendegeya.
The development happened after the arrest of Claude Ndagizimana, 42, also a former M23 rebel fighter who admitted to have participated in the gruesome murder last month and told investigators that Munyaneza had pulled the trigger.
” He told investigators that that one Scola Nyiramajambere a resident of Bunagana who had a civil suit in court with a client being represented by Ssendegeya is the one who hired the assailants,” Matte said.
According to the regional police mouthpiece, another suspect, Steven Mfitundinda, 29, a Boda Boda rider at Bunagana stage had been arrested and confessed to riding the assassins on the fateful day.
It is alleged that there was a civil case in court where the deceased had represented one Migyera as his defence lawyer.
Migyera won the case.
According to Maate, the suspects used threatening words on the deceased lawyer after the judgment was delivered in his client’s favour.
President Museveni last week visited the deceased’s family and assured them suspects will be brought to book.
