The commander of land forces in the military, Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, has accused the media of being unprofessional while carrying out its duties.

He made the remarks during the ceremony that was held at the land forces headquarters in Bombo to retire 341 army officers.

He called upon journalists to write well balanced stories in order to promote fairness, peace and unity among the members of the public.

"Our media, you have specialised in spreading lies and I want to you to write this thing I am saying now...if you don’t write, I will know that you are cowards," he said.

He noted that the prevailing peace in the country should not be tempered with because people are tired of wars and conflicts.

"So you have specialised in spreading lies, promoting hatred, violence, laziness, weakness, poor culture and all short of evils," he noted.

He called upon the media to revise their level of professionalism and stop promoting any act that can lead to discrimination , crimes among others.

"We don’t need such acts, we have had enough of it, we need peace and harmony in the country," he said.

He noted that with peace everyone can do anything to take the nation to the next level other than causing destabilisation.

"We are here today because there is peace and you media you are here because of peace. If there was no peace...you would not be here and you are here because we are here without us...you would not be here," he said.

He commended the retired army officers for the good work that have to serve the nation and also tasked them to repent to God for the crime committed during their reign.

"If you have done anything to somebody, you go and repent to your father in heaven so that you go a free man in this world, that’s the only thing I can tell you," he noted.
