Besigye urges opposition leaders to build effective networks at village level

Muhamad Matovu

Former presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, has urged the members of FDC and people’s government to build effective networks at village level and also be in position to articulate issues affecting the people of Uganda.

He made the remarks while addressing the first sitting of people’s government at his home in Kasangati on Thursday.

"We want to simply capture the state, the state in which people are living in is alarming . Make sense of it and determine how to change it through building effective network," he said.

Using statistics, Besigye noted that the current regime has done nothing to eradicate poverty among Ugandans.

“The 1 percent is the slave master and the 99 percent are the slaves, the 9 percent are the domestic slaves working inside the house and the 90 percent are the plantation slaves they work in the field," he said.

He said the state in which people are living in is the same situation with slave trade.

"Power must shift from the 1 percent to 99 percent ,then country will work for the 99 percent in fact for 100 even the other ones when they lose power the country will still work for them," he said.

He expressed his concern over the excessive borrowing and rallied development partners to suspend further lending because the money only benefit a few privileged people.

"And forever we shall have strong bond with China but they are making a mistake to start lending to us,"he said.

He urged Ugandans to stop funding the National Resistance Movement and its activities.

He said Ugandans should not think that when there is absence of war, then the country is peaceful.

"The absence of war is not security, having the state of peace is more than the absence of war, “he said.

He noted that 30 percent of the children in the country are stunted in the all of Africa.
