Parliament summons UCC's Mutabazi

The Human Rights Committee of parliament chaired by Jennifer Egunyu Nantume has summoned the executive director Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Godfrey Mutabazi to appear before it today and answer queries related to increased threats of freedom of journalists rights in the country.

On 13, April this year, UCC wrote to the managing directors of 13 various stations urging them to suspend their heads of newsrooms, and heads of programs for airing a live events of Kyadondo East legislator, Robert Kyagulanyi .

Court later issued an injunction restraining the order.

Parliament had tried to summon Mutabazi to understand the motive behind the directive but it was unsuccessful.

Mutabazi was said to be on leave.

Other issues most likely to take center stage in the committee may include queries relating to protests from women groups calling on UCC to suspend the licence of Salt TV owned by pastor Aloysius Bugingo who allegedly attacked his former wife during live broadcast.
