CECAFA Cup: High flying KCCA FC beat Rwanda’s Rayon Sport to storm semis

Ugandan representatives Kampala Capital City Authority were flying on cloud nine as they beat Rwandan side Rayon Sport in the CECAFA Kagame Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday evening.

The Kasasiro boys took their deserved lead on 33 minutes through Mustafa Kizza off an Allan Okello assist for the Ugandan side to finish the first half in the driving seat.

Okella with a good run from the right flank passed the ball well to Kizza who controlled it well before unleashing a belter with his left foot that went to the left corner of the Rayon Sport goal for their first goal.

Two minutes after recess, the Rwandan league champions levelled matters following a KCCA FC defensive lapse, thanks to new signing Herve Rugwiri who sent the home fans into frenzy.

The Ugandan champions however continued with their fine display and it paid off in the 66th minute with a second goal and winner on the day.

Jackson Nunda capitalized on a Muzamiru Mutyaba delivery from the right flank to head home the ball that went past the Rayon Sport goalkeeper for the Kasasiro boys’ second and winning goal.

The final whistle saw KCCA FC beat Rayon Sport 2-1 and storm the CECAFA Kagame Cup semifinals.

Speaking shortly after the game, KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi applauded his boys for the display against the Rwandan champions.

“We played against a team that came to stop us from playing and they pressed us hard but eventually they had to give in. We used the ball very well in the midfield,”Mutebi said.

“It was a watchable game and beautiful for the fans. We used the ball better than them and I hope we shall do better in the semifinal.”

KCCA FC will now play either Gor Mahia or Green Eagles who play later on Wednesday in another quarterfinal game.
