Mbugua replaces Ocitti as Uganda Breweries new boss

Alvin Mbugua has been appointed as the new Managing Director for Uganda Breweries Limited to replace Mark Ocitti who bowed out of the company.

“Today we formally announce the appointment of Mr. Alvin Mbugua as the new Managing Director of Uganda Breweries,” Uganda Breweries Limited said in a statement.

Ocitti who was the second Ugandan to head the Luzira based brewery since its takeover by  English company, Diageo signed out after serving for three years at the helm.

Speaking about the appointment, Mbugua welcomed the new position saying he would gladly work to steer the company to greater heights.

I am humbled to be entrusted with the stewardship of Uganda Breweries Limited by the Board of Directors,” he said.

“Having served here before as Finance and Strategy Director, I am excited to come back to a place that became my other home.”

Uganda Breweries Limited in 2018 opened a Shs13 billion new glass bottling line to replace and also quadruple the capacity of the line put in place 55 years back.

The new glass bottling line has a capacity of 6,000 bottles per hour, whereas the old one could produce only 1,440 bottles per hour.

In a related development, Mbugua’s predecessor, Mark Ocitti has gone to Tanzania’s Serengeti Breweries Limited as Managing Director.

Serengeti Breweries Limited is also part of the big Diageo family.
