UPL: Police FC accuse SC Vipers of “irregularly” signing a player still contracted with them

StarTimes Uganda Premier League team, Police Football Club has accused Vipers Sports Club of irregularly signing a player who is still contracted with them.

The Kitende based club last week announced the signing of defender Paul Willa on a three year deal for an undisclosed fee.

“The 19 year-old, who skippered Police FC last season and made impressive performances in the Cops jersey becomes the second add on for the Venoms this transfer window. The player was with no doubt one of the most consistent right backs, not only for Police but in the league as a whole making him a subject of interest from various clubs,” Vipers said on their website.

The 19 year old right back was quoted as saying he was delighted to join the Venoms, a side he promised to give his all.

However, the Police FC Chief Executive Officer, Francis Kidega has said it was unprofessional of Vipers to sign a player still contracted with them.

"Paul still has a running contract with us. If Vipers have interests in him they should follow the right procedure,” Kidega said on Saturday.

Police say Will is still contracted with them.

"It is unprofessional for any club to unveil a player who is still contracted with another club.”

The Police FC CEO said they cannot stop any player from joining another team as long as there is an agreement between the two clubs.

“We have made a formal complaint to FUFA over the same and waiting for feedback.”
