Minister urges Mbale Municipality leaders to make improvements ahead of city status

The minister of state for Urban Development,  Isaac Musumba, has urged people of Mbale Municipality to live up to the challenge ahead of attaining city status.

Musumba noted that there is a lot to be done for Mbale to match city standards.

The minister was in Mbale to welcomed President Museveni as he commissioned a number of World Bank funded road projects.

Among the areas that need improvement in Mbale is the standard and outlook of buildings, most of which are dilapidated and unattended to.

Musumba also urged the authorities to up their game in garbage management.

On garbage management, the mayor revealed that the municipality has partnered with a foreign agency to turn all the garbage generated in town and neighbouring areas into power.

The minister also unveiled upcoming infrastructural development plan to improve a number of roads in the Central business district of Mbale.

President Museveni recently issued a directive to have Mbale Municipality upgraded into a city status in July 2020. The directive quashed an earlier decision to have the city status granted in July 2021.
