Uganda approaches tonight's Zimbabwe game with caution

Ahead of today’s group A clash between table toppers Uganda and wounded lions Zimbabwe in the AFCON 2019 finals at the Cairo International stadium, Uganda Cranes captain and goalkeeper Denis Onyango has warned the Zimbabwe Warriors that he knows almost 90% of their team.

Onyango who plies his trade with South African giants Mammelodi Sundowns has palyed with or against some of Zimbabwe’s key players like midfielder Khama Billiat who was his teammates for five years between 2013 and 2018, while others he faced in the south African top division, the PSL where most of them play.

“Honestly speaking I know 90 % of the Zimbabwe players and there’s no reason to underrate them. I have played with most of them in the PSL. We play as a team and we are set. The boys are focused and we are ready to pick the maximum points. When we face Zimbabwe,” said the shot stopper.

“We just have to find a way of stopping their first attack before they are so fast going forward,” added the captain.

However as Zimbabwe come all out to face Uganda with fresh wounds, they are looking to redeem themselves and Denis Onyango isn’t their problem as the vice-captain and midfielder Ovidy Karuru of Amazulu reveals .

“We know Denis Onyango and he knows us. He is a very good goalkeeper and he is Africa’s best. But we know what to do if we need to score against him. We should not shot from a distance because he is very good at stopping shots, but should break their defense down and get to him.” Said the midfielder.

“We are ready to win tomorrow’s game and Denis Onyango won’t be our problem because we know him.”

Uganda tops the group with two points and will be hoping to pick their historic second win or at least a draw to achieve their minimum target of making it to the last 16 of the tournament.

The game will kick off at 7:00pm in Egyptian time, (8:00pm in Uganda) at the Cairo international stadium.
