Bobi Wine promoter Bajjo sent back to Luzira, longer wait for freedom

Buganda Road court has further remanded to Luzira prison music and events promoter Andrew Mukasa aka Bajjo for another week until the 5th/July when a ruling on his bail application will be made.

This is after trial magistrate Stellah Ambilisi informed Bajjo and his lawyer Erias Lukwago that she needs ample time to study submissions raised  by both him and the DPP before making a ruling  on  bail.

Bajjo has  this morning  been brought to court from Luzira prison where he was remanded to a week ago on charges of inciting violence and offensive communication against the person of President Yoweri Museveni.

He has, however, today pleaded not guilty to the offenses after court secured a fluent Luganda interpreter to read the charges to him.

His lawyer Lukwago proceeded to apply to court  for his release on bail and consequently presented three sureties including his fellow events promoter  Abbey Musinguzi aka Abitex, TV personality Aloysius Matovu Kiiza and DP's Moses Bigirwa.

But State prosecutor Patricia Cingitho objected to  Bajjo's bail application saying the Investigating officer Detec AIP Imani Were swore an affidavit to the effect that Bajjo is most likely to interfere with the police on-going investigations and chances of committing acts of further incitement to violence are high once he is released on bail.

The state has further  objected to Bajjo's  surities for  bringing to court  unco-ordinated  documents.

Lukwago has however responded by infroming  corut that his client has no capacity to interfere with prosecution's only witness-president M7 and therefore court should consider his client's constitutional right to bail .

Bajjo is   charged with  offensive communication in which he is alleged to have had an intention of  disturbing  the peace and privacy  of president M7 and  without any legitimate purpose   recorded a video using his mobile phone containing messages  threatening to overthrow the government of Uganda before the year 2021.

He is further said to have incited the public to do an act of violence against the   president  in   this very  month of June while at various places within Masaka , Ibanda, Mbarara and Kampala districts.

Bajjo was arrested on the 15th/June  by security operatives immediately after a dressing a press conference  at Centenary park in Kampala with fellow music  promoter Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex about the cancelled shows of Kyandondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu  commonly known by his music moniker Bobi Wine.
