Wine on the house; Choosing the wine glass that suits you, where to buy

Drinking wine is what it is, you have your wine and have something to pour it into. It could be a wine glass, a normal water glass, a plastic cup or for some people I know; Open the wine and drink it from the bottle itself.

Then why do we buy wine glasses anyway? It is scientifically proven that bottles and glasses have an impact on the drinks, from Soda, beverages to beer and wine.

In 2015, a Japanese medical group used a camera to record ethanol vapours in different glasses. The study revealed how different glasses affected density of vapours.

Vapours carry aromatic compounds into our noses. These compounds are actually responsible for producing flavours in wine. So next time try swinging different wine glasses to your mouth and see.

Besides the science and bla  bla, the question is; “Which is the best wine glass?”, the answer could easily be; “The one you are holding.”

While we may argue about different glasses and wines, we shall agree that someone needs just that one glass they will go and pick up without double thinking. That glass that embodies character and class to give you a wine throat massage after a very long day at work in the comfort of your home.

Nile Post contacted Shelagh Akatukunda, who runs Sheillah’s Kitchennette an online store dealing in Kitchenware. She recommended the affordable wine glasses for a youthful classy working class Uganda.

But first, the two types of glasses we need to consider;

Stemless glass;

Crystal stemless glass

The stemless glass is a diversion from the traditional wine glass that had a long handle down.

The original wine glass had three things; bowl, stem and foot, until innovators saw they could do away with the last two and just focus on the bowl.

The lack of stems on these glasses makes them fit anywhere you would place them without fearing you could tip them over. The stemless glass is also easy to wash.

Stems have been identified with ease to break, since the stems are always very narrow and long. Any mistake and you have the stem in half, and the glass dysfunctional yet you still have the entire bowl where the wine could fit.

The stemless also are more reflective in style and tempting to use, the wine lovers of this generation would definitely agree.

According to Akatukunda, Stem glasses are on market more because they are; “trendy, nice and elegant.’

“Stemless glasses tend to sit properly on the table, and they dont need a rack,” she adds.

Stemmed glasses

Stemmed glasses on their rack.

The stemmed glass is the traditional wine glass with that tail at the end (stem).

According to Akatukunda, one could as well blend in with a classy stemmed glass.

“However, the stemmed look very nice when stored away in the glass section of the house! They can be hanged on a wine rack when not in use.”

Crystal glasses

The crystal glasses are also trendy

Crystal wine glasses are also a trendy type of glass to consider. They are are both stemless and stemmed. These are the new cool and tend to be stronger than the usual wine glasses
