Mityana RDC guards shoot dead two people

Two people were on Friday shot dead by guards to Mityana Resident District Commissioner, Capt. Yahaya Kakooza, the Nile Post has learnt.

According to the Wamala Region police spokesperson Norbert Ochom, the incident happened at Gema LC one village, Misebe parish, Bulera sub -county in Mityana district when a mob tried to attack the RDC in a bid to lynch suspected witches who had been arrested.

“The RDC had gone to the area to mediate a dispute between locals and a resident who had been accused of witchcraft. The residents tried to attack the RDC with an intention of grabbing and lynching the suspected witch,”Ochom said.

It is said that on realizing danger, the guards to the RDC then fired bullets to scare off the angry mob but ended up killing shooting two dead whereas others were rushed to hospital in critical condition.

The police mouthpiece identified the deceased as 17 year old Lasto Ssenyanja and Vincent Kasozi, 42 who died on arrival at Mityana hospital whereas Harriet Namata, 36 is in critical condition.

“The scene visited by the DPC and homicide team and five used cartridges recovered, statements of eye witnesses recorded, body taken to Mityana hospital mortuary pending postmortem,” the police mouthpiece said.

He also noted that the Mityana RDC and his guards have now been summoned to appear at the Central Police Station in Mityana to help police in investigations.

Past incidents

Early this month, a VIP police guard to Buvuma District woman MP Janepher Egunyu Nantume shot dead the area NRM party chairman following a scuffle .

According to an eye witnesses, the incident happened when  the legislator set up a meeting to talk to locals at Kiziba landing site but the residents stopped her from addressing them  prompting Kizito  to intercept the MP’s team.

The NRM chairman later tried to grab a megaphone from the legislator, prompting her bodyguard to shoot him in the mouth and died instantly.
