Arua Chaos: 70 year old ex soldier added on the list of those who stoned President's car, charged with treason

70 year ex UPDF soldier Omari Ciruson was yesterday charged with treason and added to the charge sheet of 36 other suspects who reportedly attacked and pelted President Yoweri Museveni's car with stones last year.

Following the August 13, 2018 chaos in Arua Municipality by-election in which the presidential convoy was pelted with stones, over 30 people including four MPs were arrested by security before being charged with treason.

Now yesterday, court in Gulu accused former soldier Omari Ciruson Risasi for pelting the President's car with stones and added him on an amended charge sheet of other 36 suspects who face treason charges.

Omari, who had no lawyer appeared before Grade One Magistrate Isaac Kintu to hear the charges against him and he was remanded to Gulu Central Prison until next month on 4th July, 2019.

The 70 year old was arrested in Arua on Tuesday this week when police summoned him to record a statement but he was instead detained and transfered to Gulu.

He is expected to re appear in court with his other 36 co-accused which include Members of Parliament Kasiano Wadri, Kyadondo legislator Robert Kyagulanyi among others.

Following the Arua by election campaigns on 13th August, 2018, Violence erupted in Arua Municipality after supporters of one of the candidates allegedly attacked the convoy of President Museveni. In the ensuing violence, one person, Yasin Kawuma, a driver to MP Robert Kyagulanyi (aka Bobi Wine) lost his life.
