Museveni calls Artistes to Kyankwanzi, disagreements among them start

President Museveni will meet a number of artistes at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi, as he continues moves to sway them from the political wind blown by Kyadondo East legislator and people power founder Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.

With the coming of Bobi Wine to the political lime light, artistes from every nook and cranny were awoken, taking the inspiration and aligning themselves with Bobi Wine’s ideology, much to the dismay of President Museveni, and this applies to producers and event promoters alike.

Museveni, according to sources, now charged placed singer Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool with collecting fellow artistes for a meeting with him at the NRM ideology school in Kyankwanzi.

However, even before there is full confirmation of this meeting, several artistes have gone ahead to open war with those supposedly on the list to attend, seeking specific reasons why they have been left out of the meeting.

These blame artistes under Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) for eliminating fellow artistes from this meeting. While, others have reservations with the choice of venue, claiming they don’t want to be associated with the NRM party.

Singer Wycliff Tugume alias Wyke Bender, maintained that he will be part of the meeting with President Museveni because the retreat is aimed at finding solutions to the problems artistes are facing.

“The President simply wants to know problems from artistes directly from them. It is a face to face interaction with the president to make him understand our issues,” Wyke Benda said.

Drama actor Andrew Benon Kibuuka said that the venue of the meeting should not be an issue, but the intention of the same. He dismissed those politicising the meeting with President Museveni.

“There have been so many retreats, Museveni has met politicians, met Members of Parliament and now he wants to meet artistes, there is nothing new in this,” he said.

“Every politician has opposition, even MPs too have those who don’t like them. So, if there are people who oppose this, it is up to them,” he added.

Singer Sophie Gombya, said that the artistes are not meeting the NRM Party chairman but Museveni in his capacity as head of state.

“We are going to meet the President not the chairman of NRM, Museveni is the president of the country and it is him we are meeting to discuss our problems with him. He is the fountain of honour and he has given us an opportunity to express our selves.”

“When you conceive it that we are meeting the head of state, you will realise it is not important where we are meeting from.”

Museveni has tightened his grip on the music industry, recently splashing a staggering Shs2.8b to settle begrudging event promoters for losses accrued in the aborted Kyarenga concerts.
