Couldn’t hear English in court because I was slapped on the ears while being arrested- Events Promoter Bajjo

Events promoter Andrew Mukasa alias Bajjo, has said his inability to comprehend the magistrates question regarding his plea was because his ears were buzzing from slaps by security personnel, who were sent to arrest him.

Bajjo, was plucked out of his chair by security personnel in Police Presidential Guard (PPG) uniforms, while addressing a press conference at Centenary park last week.

He was yanked on his feet and thrown into a waiting Taxi Hiace Van, before being slapped with Treason charges. Bajjo was addressing the press conference together with fellow promoter Abbey Musinguzi, alias Abitex.

Following his arrest, Bajjo was paraded before Buganda Road Court Magistrate, Stella Amabilisi who read him charges and requested he enters a plea. Without a thought, Bajjo pleaded guilty to the charge of offensive communication in which he threatened to overthrow President Museveni.

This threw the court into pandemonium as his lawyers wrestled to overturn the plea, citing their client had not understood the charges to which he pleaded guilty.

The promoter was further remanded to Luzira Prison until June 26 when he will appear to re-enter plea. His colleague and fellow promoter Abitex paid courtesy visit to him in Luzira, where he claims they discussed a number of issues including the court chaos following his plea.

According to Abitex, Bajjo said he did not hear the magistrate’s English because his ears were still buzzing from slaps received during his arrest.

“He said he was slapped in the ears, they squeezed his body and violently arrested him so he was not able to hear well. But he told me he will be hearing everything when he returns in court,” Abitexs said.

The promoter also rubbished those claiming that Bajjo’s arrest is only a stunt.

“Ugandans never believe anything, some of them still believe Michael Jackson didn’t die, other believe Ivan Ssemwanga is still alive, but this is truth. Bajjo has no time to plan with security forces to arrest him in such a manner. The slaps he was given are not just for a stunt. He wants to have a change in government and that is his contribution.”
