Desabre confident of Cranes performance at Afcon after win against Ivory Cost in friendly

Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre has said he is confident his team will go a long way as they play in this year’s Afcon finals in Egypt.

A Faruku Miya 34th minute goal off a spot kick was enough for Uganda to beat the star-studded Ivory Coast team in an international friendly played at Sheikh Zayed Sport City on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking shortly after the game, the French tactician said he had been energized by the team’s performance.

There was a positive attitude throughout the game and winning it was important for the mental preparedness of the boys,”Desabre said.

He said the game helped to assess the players and hoped they will be ready for their first game.

The French international also called for collective display from all the players in a bid to foster cohesion, a team pillar in the team building process.

“The most important thing for us is to work as a complete unit as we focus on our goals.”

Uganda is in group A of the 2019 Afcon finals together with hosts Egypt, DR Congo and Zimbabwe.

The East African side will open their account in this year’s edition against DRC on June 22 in a game to be played at Cairo international stadium.

Cameroon are the defending champions after beating Egypt in finals played in Gabon in 2017.
